Disappointed return customer
My husband and I had visited Wyndham Sugar Bay two years ago and had a great experience. We did not realize when we decided to return this year that Sugar Bay is no longer a Wyndham resort. We were very disappointed and could tell that the standards of Wyndham no longer applied. Many corners are being cut. Dirty restrooms in lobby, hotel staff not as accommodating, rooms are getting worn and run down looking, etc. We do not plan to return to Sugar Bay after this trip.
We arrived at Sugar Bay on New Years Day (the morning after I proposed to my beautiful fiance) to find they had no A/C in the entire resort and a few amenities were not available due to maintenance. The staff at the resort and Cheapcaribbean.com were both very apologetic and made sure that despite the issues we had that we were made happy. The pools and beach were amazing and spotlessly clean. The views are unbelievable and very calming. We were slightly disappointed in the selection and cost of food, but you'll find that at any resort you visit. We decided not to get the all-inclusive plan since neither my fiance or I drink and my fiance is on a Gluten free diet. We however realized all-inclusive is the way to go no matter what. Cabs we're convenient and quickly arrived when requested. Being located near Coki beach and the ferry (very affordable and worth the trip) made it easy to take a couple day trips and not break the bank. The snorkeling on the resort was just as nice as the world famous Coki beach and much less crowded. Kayaking was nice, but you had to stay within the view of the attendant so you can't really tour the coast line like we were hoping. We received a couple's massage at the spa and were blown away by the atmosphere and customer service. Also the gym there was far greater than most resorts so you can actually get in a decent workout if you're into that kind of thing on vacation.
All in all we enjoyed our stay despite a few issues, which were made up for by the great staff at the resort and CheapCaribbean.com...

Sugar Bay has pros and cons
Pros: Nice friendly staff that went the extra mile like upgrading our room because a king bed was not available and a housekeeper put flowers from an event in our room. Good views, large rooms, and close proximity to Red Hook and the ferry. Rum punch on arrival was a nice touch. Breakfast at the Manor House was pretty good.
Cons: Rooms were not spotless and at times it felt like the staff didn't know what was going on. It was the little things they didn't get right like there was no answer when we called for a wake up call, the putt putt was closed, small roaches were in the bathroom. Entertainment was amateurous and seemingly unorganized. Hotel is far from the airport. Food at one restaurant was just bad.
had a great time very nice view! we did not do the all inclusive and didnt have a lot of options for food . food was expensive. suggest doing all inclusive

Best off shore snorkeling?8 answers
I'm looking for some ideas of the best destination and corresponding hotels that offer off shore snorkeling. And the destination must have direct flights from the NYC area hotels.

Some great destinations for snorkeling with non-stop flights from the New York are Grand Cayman, Barbados, and St. Lucia. Most hotels include non-motorized water sports with your reservation but you'll want to double check under the resort's amenities.

St Thomas has multiple options for snorkeling.

Small beach/reef but the snorkel gear is included

The Sugar bay Resort in St. Thomas is your answer to off shore snorkling. St. John is only a 15 minute ferry ride and the ferry is close to the resort so be sure to get over to St. John and experience some great off shore snorkling there as well.

There was snorkking off the hotel beach if you don't want to go far and folks seemed leased with the variety there. There scuba training there too.

Pay the extra money and stay at the Ritz Carlton...really close too the Sugar Bay resort. Take a ferry too St.John(20 minutes across the way) the best snorkling is off this island!

St Thomas/Sugar Bay has snorkeling equipment on-site. Sugar Bay has a man-made beach that is very small, rocky and unimpressive. There are many boat trip options, including excurion to St John for the day that offers fabulous snorkeling.

Sugar Bay resort had a great off shore sailing option for $120/pp which is an all day trip that includes breakfast, lunch and drinks. Also Coki beach is just a $5 cab ride away. Jet Blue now had direct flights to St Thomas
