Not far from Cancun is a half-mile strip of the Riviera Maya that is so secluded even its name is exclusive. Playa Del Secreto, "The Secret Beach," is a romantic retreat for couples who want to get away from it all. That makes it the perfect setting for the adults-only Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya.

beautiful but rowdy
Resory beautiful food very good. Seevice could bestaurant rezervate better understaffed. Hard to find towels which should be easy. Crowd a bit crazy and rwsort did little to control it. Must upgrade to privledged for reserved chairs and reservations
The resort itself was awesome. Lots of beauty, services, etc. Day 3 into the trip, I was hit with a bacterial infection because of the water. I know they are careful, but nonetheless, it got me. Day 5, I was still hurting aand attempted to visit the doctor on premises, but he/she was not in all day. We then booked a flight home (2 days early) and was pulled off the airplane at our layover in Charlotte via paramedics. I couldn't walk by that point.
To be fair, I should state that 3 others on the trip had no ill effects, but I think that is the end of my excursions to Mexico.
Better than the I expected. So nice we never left the property. The food was good and the drinks were better. Never had to wait for anything. The service is very good from bar tender's to maid's. Only one thing they could improve on, is to upgrade the TV's in the room. We went for our 25th and had a great time.
We just got back 5/8/12 on a 4 day 3 night trip and it was fantastic! I really wish we would have booked it for longer. The service is amazing! Everyone was so friendly and we had a blast at the pool. The bartenders knew how to make a drink! We met some many awesome couples! There was a great veriety of age group there. It was very clean and by far our fav. place to eat was Ginger. The sushi chef was great!!!! This resort was even better then I hoped for and I urge anyone that wants to relax but have a good time to come here. The check in and out time was so short and a breeze! We will be back.

How do I get the package price?8 answers
I'm looking at the package deal for the Valentin Imerial Maya for $599 per person but when I put in dates the price doubles. How do I get the trip for $599?? It doesn't have selected days.
1 year, 15 months ago
jenajoy
the price is 599 per person double occupancy only...then depending on what airport u fly out of it might be extra for that and then tax basically you can call them if you want, but i think all in all it will not cost 1200 its more like 1800 total.
I have stayed at this resort beofre and and it wonderful! we are going back. hope this helps...good luck.
johnswife
Did you enter in the promo code? At the bottom of the page there is a area to enter in the promo code that applies to you.
SFun
I had trouble with that too when we were booking. You really just have to toggle with the dates for a while to find a combination that works. Also, where you're flying from probably adds significantly to the price because the price is calculated based on a flight leaving from Ft. Lauderdale.
NatureGrl
Call the representative at Cheap Caribbean... it will be faster
Dolpina
It all depends where you are flying from, how many stops, etc. For example, where we fly out of, we always have to go to a larger airport that goes right to Cancun.
runner1909
I know when we booked there was a code we had to use to get $450 dollars off (ex. MAYA450) and you don't put the code in until you get close to the end, like after picking the flight and stuff. Hope that helps..
afox23
Usually it automatically selects 2 people - which would be why the price doubles. Otherwise check the dates in ().
sherryKM
It depends on the dates you wanna travel
Sledge
I believe the price shown is for the resort only and airfare from the closest city only, and does not include airport transfers or taxes. I talked to some people who flew from different areas of the country and thus their cost was different than mine. However, I must say no matter where you come from, the value is just amazing as it is truly a five star resort with impeccable services, outstanding facilities, and the beauty of the buildings, grounds and multiple pools exceeds anything I have seen -- even in Hawaii.

How is the swimming at this resort?12 answers

Gretchen
Amazing! So many pools to choose from, and the entire resort is adult only so the noise levels are very low. Beach is also amazing!
CaribbeanJim
Just click on your departure city, enter your dates, number of passengers, etc and away you go!
CaribbeanJim
They have one of the largest pools I have seen. The beach is nice on one side but very rocky on the other side. You do need to get up early in the morning 6a.m. to reserve chairs at the pool and beach or else they are gone. Many of the chairs at the pool and beach are reserved for the more expensive room.
cjay
Great!
GeoJr
The pools were nice and not too cold (we were there in March).
The water at the beach was extremely rough and there's a pretty small roped off area where you can swim. The swimming area does have a sandy bottom which was nice.
We swam every day in the pool and ocean. Had a great time.
NatureGrl
Swimming is fabulous. the main pool was huge. The swim up room pools were quiet and nice. Water was perfect temperature. The beach was the nicest I have ever seen. crystal clear water. I love big waves and this beach had it. The ocean front room has all rock and coral in front of its beach, so we felt this would not be worth it
Happyvacationer1
excellent. the pool is huge and very clean. there are no little kids running around, and the beach is beautiful. once i got in the pool i spent a good part of my day in the water!
dickybeau
Excellent. The pool is huge. There are also several smaller pools if you want something more mellow. The beach is great, and you can swim there as well.
Coach
The swimming was terrific, gentle water and warm. There is a school of angle fish that stays right near the beach. If you take some bread with you they will swim right up to you and eat it. If you are facing the ocean go all the way to the left to get into the water, least amount of pebbles at the water line. After a couple of feet it is all soft sand.
BrianL12
Swimming was great. Both the pool and beaches are not overcrowded. One area in the water at the beach had some rocks. Water temperature was wonderful (April 2011).
xxxxx
Swimming at this resort is amazing. If you like the ocean, you will love this beach. The water is so clear and warm and you can go pretty far out without it getting deep. There are angel fish that you can feed and my husband snorkeled so he could see them. There is a net to keep out any unwanted intruders. :) The pool is huge, but we found that we loved the beach more and was there everyday.
HeatherO
The pool water is very clear and well kept. There's a larger pool with 2 swim up bars, and a volleyball net. Then there are smaller pools closer to the buildings you sleep in. The ocean is very clear, and a section is flagged out so you don't step on rocks. The water has waves, so youwouldn't lay there and float but the waves aren't that big. It's a lot of fun!
jjbabycakes
Swimming is ok at the pools, but as there is only one big pool, then it's recommended to go early in the morning before the water squatters get there with their giant insulated mugs and drink all day w/o getting out of the water to properly relocate said liquid intake. There is a smaller lap pool which may help as well.
The beach offers fairly open swimming as long as there are no major winds which limits where you can swim
NewYorkGringo
The swimming was good in that the pool is very long and offers a quiet end away from all the afternoon activities. It has lots room to roam. It also has a beach which offers good sandy beach swimming as well.
fish19
Fabulous Beach.. White Sand, Coral free in swimming area, easy to get in and out of the water, fun to play in the waves.

How far is the Valentin from Playa Del Carmen?11 answers
We were wondering what there is to do outside of the resort besides the already listed excursions?
1 year, 15 months ago
Mosie
The Valentin Imperial Maya is approximately 20 minutes by taxi to Playa del Carmen and approximately 30 minutes to Cancun, where there are a number of restaurants and shopping opportunities. There are also a couple of golf courses in the area as well as the Xel-Ha and Xcaret theme parks and the Tulum pyramids.
KateCC
Playa del Carmen is a 20 minute cab ride away. The Valentin also has a shuttle that goes twice a day at designated times for $17 per person. The cab ride is $22 each way. You can take the ferry from Playa del Carmen and go to the Island of Cozymel. They have other trips that you can take for snorkeling, visiting the ruins etc. but they are all at a cost.
cjay
The Valentine is about 15-20 minutes away from Playa. We went to Playa and it was very nice. We shopped, ate lunch and went to the beach. We also went to Tlum which was beautiful.
Miker
once you arrive at this resort, you will not want to leave to venture out and spend more money! there is plenty to do, eat, and drink!
dickybeau
Playa Del Carmen is about 20 min away by taxi. There is also several Mayan ruins within an hour. I would recomend going to at least one of them.
BrianL12
You are about 25 miles from Playa. There are two shuttles a day that go there. One afternoon and one evening.
LoisandClark
The hotel has 2 shuttles per day, morning & afternoon. In April, 2011, it costs $18 per person, and it takes about a half hour to get to Playa Del Carmen.
ShGar
We took an excursion to Playa del Carmen and it only took about 30 minutes. We also did the Tulum Extreme which took you to the Mayan Ruins, snorkeling in a cenote, rapelling, and zip-lining (lunch included). The trip to Tulum was about an hour but well worth it.
xxxxx
The Valentin is about 20 minutes away from Playa del Carmen. You can ride the Valentin shuttle for $18.00 per person round trip. Playa del Carmen is ok if you want to shop and walk around. We also went to Xel Ha....which we love and recommend highly.
HeatherO
It's roughly 20-25 minutes from Playa del Carmen. The resort has a daily shuttle to Playa del Carmen for $18 pp, or you could take a cab for $25 each way. Valentin Imperial Maya is between Peurto Morales and Playa del Carmen.
The resort is one hour away from Tulum where there are Mayan ruins to tour. Also along the way to Tulum there are cenotes. We did a tour at the Jungle Place (1 hour away from resort) where we interacted with rescued spider monkeys. It was awesome. You can rent a car from the resort for $65 and drive to any of these places very easily and safely.
Anonymous
We went to Cancun for half a day of shopping in a local market and lunch. You can go to Cozumel for a day. I highly recommend going to Playa del Carmen. Take a taxi or van (it's cheaper) and go from 1:00 to 9:00. Pay half the fee when you get there and the other half when they bring you back. Playa is full of shops and restaurants and bars. Eat at one of the places on the beach, the sand is like talcum powder.

resort map available?11 answers
Does anyone have a resort map that shows where each type of room is located? (silver, golden, etc). Also, if we were placed in a room far from the beach do any of the pools go throughout the property so that one could swim/float instead of having to do too much walking? I have bad knees.
Thanks
1 year, 15 months ago
nottachef
You may be able to find a resort map for the resort on their website at www.valentinmaya.com. The resort's pools do not interconnect throughout the property and the resort is quite large, so if you are looking to be in a room that is centrally located, request to be in building 4 or 5 as they are in the center of the property.
KateCC
We just returned from the Valentin and it is a very large resort and does require a lot of walking unless you get a beachfront room which goes out onto the beach. There are several pools but are located in the center. They do have a map they give you when you arrive. They might be able to fax or email you one.
cjay
The property does have a map locating all amentities. You could not swim from location to location. A lot of walking is required but you could call the front desk to come to your room with a cart to pick you up and take you to your destination. The service there is excellent.
GeoJr
The pool is quite long and you could float a long way in it. The resort many golf carts on which you could catch a ride to the beach.
Verch
As to the walking, some units are more centrally located and shuttles (golf carts) are available.
lejaptnt
There should be a map on their website. Also, when you book, request a room close to one of the smaller pools so that you don't have to walk.
Coach
I have a really bad back and cannot walk that far at all. We stayed in a golden suite. It is close to the beach, close to the main pool and there is a separate pool that our patio went out to. It is called a swim up suite. The only thing was that it was too far of a walk for me to the restaurants. But all you have to do is call, and someone will pick you up and take you. When you are ready to go back to the room, they will take you back too! Hope this helps.
Cohy
The pools do not connect and the place is big but they have shuttles to take you cheerfully wherever you want to go -- to another pool, to the ocean, or restaurants. I have some trouble walking too but I just pick up the phone, called the front desk and a shuttle was there to pick you up within 5 - 10 minutes. They picked you up from your hotel room to where you wanted to go and from restaurants, or from the plaza at night after the shows. No problem at all getting around and they conversed during the ride about the Valentin, the scenery , nightlife, animals, and restaurants.
Zubs
Sorry I don't have a map... you can call the front desk and they can send transportation (huge golfcart or sometimes a car) and they can come pick you up and take you to where you want to go. Building 6 was pretty close to the ocean, maybe a block or so away? Also, yes there is a huge wrap around pool (they call a lazy river-it doesn't move you, you have to swim) that goes around the buildings and ends at building 6.
Mysty
We just had a reg room and were in building 3, we found it was perfectly located in the middle of beach, pool, food. There is a lazy river on the back side of the property that has a lazy river and its own beach but the beach isnt for swimming and its a longer walk to everything else. They do have golf carts and little cars driving around constantly giving people rides. Hope this helps!
NicoleM
Although I highly recommend this resort, there was a good amount of walking involved as this resort is very large and spread out.

Is there a beach bar or waiters serving drinks on the beach?11 answers
11 months ago
JAS
Yes, around noon someone from the bar walk the beach area offering lunch and drinks
bnthall
Yes, there are waiters on the beach. It takes a while for them to return with drinks though, even if you tip them. I think it's only 1 waiter at a time for the entire beach. There isn't a bar on the beach, but it's close.
Venessa
There are 2 beach bars that had someone bringing drinks to your spot on the beach. They also had snacks at the beach bars. There was premium alcohol and the drinks were well made. There are other bars and eating sites to get drinks. It was very easy to get a drink whenever we wanted one.
CJfromCA
Technically it's not a beach bar, but there is a bar overlooking the beach with fancy-schmancy beach "beds" maybe 25 feet from the water. There are also waiters running around everywhere.
Theo
Yes there is a beach bar by both sitting areas and there were waiters serving drinks at both.
DAWNWISCONSIN
yes, both!
NicoleM
Yes, there are bars everywhere! and a waiter will come to you while you are on the beach.
Kangie
Yes, here is a beach bar located just off the beach. In addition, waiter do come and take your drink orders on both the beach and around the pool.
smitheran
There is a beach bar right on the entrance to the beach, which was great. And they do have servers, but since they are trying to cover the whole beach crowd at busy times it is quicker to head up to the bar yourself.
ashmouth
There were two pool bars at the pool, and for the beach, there is a small bar hut at the one entrance to the beach that you can get drinks at. There is a waiter or waitress that walks the beach taking orders, but most people (if not all) that used them tipped each time.

What is the cost to upgrade your room ?11 answers
We were considering upgrading to the Emerald suite but were uncertain of the cost and if the "regular" rooms are nice we would probably opt to spend our money and squeeze another day or two at the resort...your experiences ? Thank You
11 months ago
pablo
The best way to determine how much a room upgrade would be is to proceed through a booking until you get to the page where the room categories are displayed. The room category that is pre-selected has no additional cost assessed. The additional cost for selecting another room category is located to the right of the room description. For example, a trip in September for 4 nights booked today, the room with no additional cost is the Deluxe Junior Suite. If the Emerald Suite is selected the additional cost would be $128 for the length of stay for two people. Both room categories are very nicely appointed with similar amenities, however the Emerald Suites are closest to the beach .
ccsusan1
This may be too much information...but the Emerald suite does not have the bathroom privacy we Americans are accustomed to. The door to the toilet is not a full door.
Otherwise....the Emerald Suite has a beautiful HUGE jetted tube and plenty of room. We were in building 2 and it was convenient to the plaza and restaurants. If you want more privacy, I would recommend the swim-up suites.
(...and we stayed Sat. to Thursday....another couple of days would have been great!!!)
SusanandJeff
We were in an Emerald Suite for 1 week. The cost was $2800.00. Not sure how much more that is than the basic rooms. We loved our room, but next time we will probably go with a Silver Suite and stay and extra day. From the pictures they seem just as nice.
Shooty76
We stayed in a regular room (5 nights) and it did the job just fine. There was a king size bed, and a sitting area. The bathroom was adequate but not over the top. It was a decent size with one sink, one toilet with a separate door, shower (only big enough for one) and a jetted tub. The room still had a mini fridge and a coffee maker too. We didn't spend all that much time in our room anyway. If I had to choose between a nicer room or another day or two I would stay another day or two in the regular room!
afox23
the indoor jacuuzi is really nice but the beachfront rooms are not beachview. i'm not sure if you can get the indoor jacuuzi without beachfront. the swimout rooms aren't really swim out. . . a lazy river is approximately 15 ft away from the porch. we were on the 1st floor beach front and it wasn't worth the money.
moneyman116
I stayed in the emerald suite specifically for the ocean view, and even emailed the hotel and wrote in our cheap Caribbean booking my preference for second floor. We did not receive it and only saw jungle foliage right out our room. Unless you are booking for the huge hot tub, I personally would not book this room again. The others were just as sufficient.
IndianaSLP
We stayed in the Deluxe Jr. Suite and it was more than adequate. It had an enormous bathroom, huge balcony, and sitting area in addition to the beds. We honestly didn't spend much time in our room anyway since it was so beautiful by the pool and at the beach. We wished we had a few more days (we were there for five), so I'd definitely opt for elongating your trip!
hmorris714
When you go with Cheapcaribbean.com they usually will upgrade you one upgrade. Also call ahead and tell them it is a special occasion - the customer service and concierges are outstanding.
sherryKM
It ranges anywhere from $200 to $500
Sledge
Our "regular" room was very spacious and nicely appointed. I would spend the money instead on getting the privilege package, which allows you to make reservations at the restaurants and for palapas at the beach and pool, and gives you access to the privilege salon.
rgrm
My friend and I traveled as singles together, and upgraded to a Golden Junior Suite at an extremely reasonable cost, which was well worth it. We had complimentary robes and slippers in the room, a private pool for our end of the buidling beneath our balcony, a separate living/dining area which was wonderful when enjoying room service or when one of us was resting and the other wanted to read or watch tv. The bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower, a separate toilet area with bidet! I say go for it and you won't be sorry!

The average weather for Riviera Maya in October is highest 85 degrees and the lowest is an averge of 75 degrees.

Well I was there in the beginning of July and it was their rainy season. I talked with one of the workers and he said the summer (June/July/August) is really the only time of the year they get rain and the rest of the year is dry.

The weather is a very hot and humid climate.....

It's a little more expensive if you book it by yourself. But I highly recommend to go to this trip even if you're single and by yourself. That's what I did and I am very happy. you get to meet so many friendly people and will never feel lonely. Go have fun...
mba44
Yes, you may certainly book a trip to this property for one person. The room rate that would be charged for a single would be about the same as the total of what two people in the room would pay. However the Promo Code Beach100 would be ineligible as it requires double occupancy.
ccsusan1
You can get the deal but there weren't too many singles, mostly couples. The few singles I met were disappointed that there weren't available matches.

Dos equis, Tecate, I believe Tecate light and Coors light. No Corona.

Not much of a variety. They primarily serve Dos XX and Tecate. They DO NOT have Corona.
CoronaCowboy
Dos Equis, Coors light and Tecate Light.
chicagotravelers
The one thing that surprised me when I was there is all of the resorts are either Corona or Dos Equis, they won't have both. It must be some kind of distributor agreement. Valentin Imperial Maya was Dos Equis. They had the typical American beers there too but I think the taps were just Dos Equis is I remember correctly. As far as specialty beers I don't know, there was a Cigar Bar that had premium liquor, they may have had other beers too, not sure. I did not go in there.
CJCreasman
They have a big selection of beers and liquors

Tecate, Dos Equis and bud light...from what I saw.

What are the additional costs for the upscale tequilas at the Salon Partegas (Ciga Bar)6 answers
Do they have quality tequila at the other bars ?
pablo
I only sampled the tequilas at Salon Partegas. All of the bars are close together and should you ask for something special, I'm sure the bar tender will arrange to have it brought to you.
The costs are not significant. I cannot remember exactly, but it wasn't high enough for me to take notice.
Be sure to bring some quality cigars with you as those at the resort are expensive.
Riain
If you don't ask for it, they will make your drinks with shelf liquor. All you have to do is ask them for quality tequila and they will happily make your drink with that. No additional charge.
MrsDinnel
Yes

Top notch alcohol is available all over the place, no extra charge anywhere was my experience. Bars and good service abound at this resort, including your choice of wine at the many excellent restaurants.

All the liquor was "top-shelf". Bombay Sapphire gin, Cabo Wabo tequila, Crown Royal.... no extra surcharge for any of these.

Not on site, but they can hook you up with Scuba Steve.

If you have your SCUBA certificate already, scuba diving trips can be booked (at additional cost) with any of the tour groups that have booths available in the lobby. AWSOME everything execpt maybe the italian place and I love italian too but was not really impressed the breakfast and the steak was amazing!!!!

Food was delicious! Desserts were good. We were able to try every restaurant. Our favorites were Le Marche for breakfast, Tierra for lunch, and Il Olivo (Italian) and Taman Sari (Indonesian) for dinner. L'Alsace had phenomenol food and dessert. Drinks were tasty. You will not be disappointed!
MrsDinnel
There are 7 different restaurants and you do not need reservations. There is Italian, French, Japanese, Indonesian, Mexican, Steak, and Seafood. While we were there about 2 restaurants per night were closed, but we still had 5 to choose from. They put out a newsletter each day that tells you which ones are closed. We went to a different restaurant every night and then picked our favorite to return to on our last night. You do not need reservations and we never had to wait for a table. They also have 24 hour room service and a bar that serves snack food later at night. The quality of the food was very good, we were always stuffed and happy :-)

There were lots of options, and the food ranged from good to great. Breakfast and lunch were absolutely amazing (lots of yummy seafood!) and dinner was generally good (we liked the Indonesian restaurant and the sushi place, but were unimpressed by the French restuarant)

There were 7 restaurants at the resort and we ended up eating at 5 of them. All of them had excellent choices but oddly enough, none of the ones where we ate, offered Mexican fare. There is a Mexican restaurant but we just never made it there.
We only ate breakfast two mornings and both of those were buffet style. They were good and offered a wide variety. I wouldn't say that they were anything exceptional, but they were good. they offered the typical items: eggs, omelets, sausage, etc. The did have some very nice fruit options and fresh juices.
All of our dinners were gourmet in style and we both enjoyed them very much. I would say that they were 4 to 5 stars and would probably cost an arm and leg back home. The quantity was fine for us but, if you wanted more, you simply had to ask.
There were plenty of options. If you like seafood, they offered many fish dishes. The steaks were good but, that really isn't their speciality. If you are a vegetarian, there was a vegetable option at each meal as well. Since this is an adult only resort, there aren't any family style dishes, everything seems to be geared to pamper the adult palate. If you go to the Japanese restaurant, try the hibachi...it was fun and the food was awesome.
Room service was also available and offered a wide variety. It was good quality as well. I recommend the chicken taco as a nice late night snack.
I wouldn't worry about food at this resort...no matter how picky you might be, they will be able to satisfy.
I hope this helps.
mtoddg67
The food was delicious! Lots of different restaurant options to choose from: Mexican, Japanese, Italian, French, Indonesian, steak, and seafood. We ate at the buffet for breakfast and lunch every day and always found something new and delicious to try. The quality and service were impecable, and the presentation was beautiful! We were there five days but could have easily stayed longer without getting tired of the meal options.
hmorris714
There were 5 or 6 restaurants on the property. They are all themed, mexican (of course, but we did not eat there), Steak, Seafood, Japanese, Indian, and Italian I think. My favorite was the seafood and the sushi bar, the steak was good too. You can make reservations or just show up, it's pretty laid back, not like a cruise where you have to eat at a certain time. Room Service is supposed to be 24hrs too, couldn't get a hold of anyone when we called late on night though. The breakfast and lunch buffets are good. The place closer to the lobby is better than the place by the beach (more choices).
Regarding the quality, almost everything was top notch. The steaks and the seafood were great, the sushi was awesome. The hibachi table wasn't as good as i would have liked it but it was a good experience. We heard from another couple that the Mexican wasn't that good but we never tried it ourselves. Certain restaurants are closed on certain nights too so you'll have to check the days you are going so you don't miss a place you want to go.
CJCreasman
There are 5 main restaurants - ranging from steak, seafood, mexican, french and one other like japanese I think. The dinners are great - good service and nice food. You can get room service any time - free - but the menu is a bit limited but not bad. We loved the food and have been twice.

we just returned Dec 8th and this is a great season to go. It was 80-85 most days...light rain occasionally...just enough to keep everything beautiful! It was warm so we didint mind the rain, and it only lasted an hour or so. most the days were cloudy off and on, but no rain...just sooo perfect, right when you get too warm, a fresh breeze and clouds roll by. EVERYBODY there seemed to be having a wonderful experience as well.

We were there the week before Christmas. The temps were around 80 -- quite pleasant -- but it was a bit breezy and there were quite a lot of clouds. Don't know if this is normal for this time of year, but if we go back, we're thinking of going in April or May instead.

there were catamarans and kayaks. We kayaked a few days, but then it got very windy that they had all non-motorized equipment tied up. Bring a snorkel with you, and even if you don't have one, the water is so clear that the fish are easy to see from above the water.

Valentin Imperial Maya is an Adults Only (18+) All-Inclusive resort .
KellyCC
Yes, I believe that's correct (because the drinking age is 18). However, I saw VERY FEW people under the age of 25 @ VIM. It's not a Club Med or Sandals type of "party scene". That's not to say we weren't doing shots of tequila at the swim-up bar @ 11am (guilty as charged, your honor), but it seems to mostly attract couples in their mid 30's - mid 60's.

Catholic Mass on Resort?6 answers
Is there a chapel and Mass offered on the resort?
Gamma
There is a chapel on the resort's property, however, it is usually used for wedding.
MariaCC
There is a lovely chapel on the grounds of the Valentin Maya and I believe a sunday mass is available
zoerose
There's a beautiful little chapel (seating for about 50?) on the grounds. Open air, very pretty. Wouldn't call it "non-denominational" as there was a crucifix and a beautiful statue of the Blessed Virgin. You would think Mass might be said there, but I didn't go or see any mention of it. My guess is that the chapel is used mostly for weddings. Worth calling the resort to get a definitive answer.
rpkelly55
Yes, there is a chapel in the middle of the resort. I believe that it is Catholic.
Fireman804
Yes to "Is there a Chapel?" and Yes to "Is there a service?" Not sure if there is a Catholic service.

Transportation to and from town usually is not included. The resort is located minutes from the vibrant culture of Cancun and the world famous Mayan archaeological sites such as Tulum, Coba, and Chichen Itza.
MariaCC
There is a shuttle service that takes you to and from town. We did not utilize it, but were told at check in about the service. I am sure there is a charge, I don't remember what it is, though.
travelready
Yes you can set it up with the front desk
matt0905
Yes, $19 per person. Cheaper to do a cab if you share it with 4 people, then you can pick the amount of hours you want to stay. Playa Del Carmen is really nice, you could definately spend a whole day there, lots of shops and restaurants, close to beach.
DT11
yes there is a shuttle but it is not complimentary
you can prepay for the am or pm excursions at the travel desk
zoerose
Transportation can be arranged through the hotel, or you can book with a number of tour vendors located just to the right of the bell captains area (entrance) as you walk in towards the lobby. Olympus Tours was great for us, but others would likely be very good also. The shopping tour, for instance runs about $17.00 USD per person through the hotel, while the Olympus Tours ran us about $19.00 USD per person for a shopping trip and tour into Cancun. Other tours/trips will vary. Costs for taxis are considerably more expensive, but also less regimented.
DKKK
Paya del Carmen is the nearest town - about 20-25 min away... tons of fun!!! I highly recommend going in the early evening - very vibrant scene. Shopping, bars, restaurants, PEOPLE WATCHING... all right on one 3/4 mile street (5th Ave).
Cab from VIM was $25 one way.
VIM shuttle ran to/fm Playa 2x/day - $18 R/T
Best bet for us was to take a collectivo - only $2! For more info on collectivos, read here: http://www.travelyucatan.com/collectivo.php
rpkelly55
The hotel has a shuttle twice a day….morning and afternoon. Not sure of the morning times, but the afternoon takes you to Playa Del Carmen at 3:30 and back to the hotel at 7:30. Cost is $18 per person round trip. Cab fare (for two people) is $25 one way. We chose that option ($50 vs $36 for 2 people) but then we could come and go as we wanted. Before you just hop in any cab in Playa to go back, make sure you ask how much. Some cab drivers will say $40, some $25, and others somewhere in between. There is no shortage of cabs to take you back to the hotel, so they will deal with you! The only other and the cheapest option is to walk the LONG drive from the hotel out to the main highway and take the Collectivo (white window van usually) into town. That will probably cost you about $5. But then, on the way back, you'd get dropped off on the highway and have to hoof it back to the hotel from there.

is there a dress code for evening dinners or events ? Like long pants for men ?7 answers
3 months ago
Connie
Yes, several of the restaurants require long pants and collared shirts. There is a daily newsletter delivered to your room that states dress code for both women and men.
Rick1957
Yes there is a dress code for a few of the restaurants. Take a couple of button down shirts and a pair or two of khakis or slacks and you will be fine. I think the french restuarant is the only one the required slacks. The other places you can go into with jeans and a polo. My wife wore casual and sun dresses when we went to dinner.
Fireman804
Yes, long pants for men, no sleeveless shirts, women must wear "elegant sandals" for dinner. I walked to the restaurants barefoot and put my shoes on when I get there. Long walk and raining
sunspot
Resort evening attire: ladies are expected to wear a dress or blouse with skirt, pants, dress jeans (not torn or ragged), capri pants, dress Bermuda shorts with dress shoes or elegant sandals. Sportswear, tennis shoes or beach sandals are not allowed. Men are expected to wear long pants or dress jeans (not torn or ragged), dress or casual shirt with a collar and sleeves, dress sandals with covered toes or loafers. Sportswear, shorts, sleeveless shirts, baseball caps, tennis shoes or sandals are not allowed.
MeganCC
yes ...however no one pays attention to it or is it enforced

Long pants for men and closed toe shoes for men. They also said no sneakers but didn't refuse the person in our group that only had sneakers. All but 2 restaurants followed the dress code.
ae0003
The restaurants near the beach (Lobster Pot for seafood and Tierra for steak) do not require long pants. The French, Italian, Japanese, and Indonesian restaurants DO require long pants. As a matter of fact, when I went to the Japanese restaurant (wearing short pants) and got on a short waiting list for the next available Hibachi Dinner, the hostess told me I needed to have long pants. I had to go back to my room...pronto (near the beach) and change. Men are also required to have collared shirts at these restaurants (polos ok). Not sure if all the restaurants enforce the rule. I saw men in the Mexican restaurant with shorts and no one said anything to them.

they usually have a band every night in the lobby area for dancing but they play the same songs every night. They also had kereoke one night. Overall not a huge place for nightlife. Playa Del Carmen is about a 30 minute ride which is more lively. I believe you can take a bus which is $3 each way.
szka
There are several bars on the property. One is a quiet sit down "martini and sushi" type bar, and the other is a sports bar with a few pool tables. There is always music and a party like atmosphere in the plaza. Playa Del Carmen is a $25 to $30 cab ride one way.
svanb
This resort is about 30 minutes taxi ride to downtown, so if you don't mind that, then you can find party bars there. But there is a very active nightlife in the hotel plaza every night (outdoor bar there).

It is pretty casual. You will be fine in jeans, but you will find that most take the opportunity to dress up.
carolinagirl
The Valentin Imperial Maya has a dress code for all of their specialty restaurants please see below:
Dress code: Casual shorts, bermudas, and t-shirts are welcome. No tank shirts, swim suits or wet clothing will be permitted. Dress shoes, casual shoes or sandals must be worn.
MeganCC
Yes there is a strict dress code for dinner. I brought 4-5 pair of shorts and did not wear a one. Swim trunks during the day and then at dinner, long pants and shirt with sleeves for the guys and dress or capris for the women. It is well worth the dress code for the food. It is impeccable. No regrets. (I live in jeans at home; it was nice to wear something different!)
Harleyman
The dress code is enforced in the restaurants. Males must wear long pants and a collared shirt. No shorts or open-toed shoes. We didn't see anyone turned away, but all were dressed appropriately. One gentlemen made a reservation for later in the evening. He was reminded of the dress code because at the time he was in shorts and tee shirt with flip flops.
There is no dress code for the buffet, or special dinner nights.
edwint
Yes - the dress code is enforced. So know that going down to the resort. The outdoor restaurants allowed walking shorts and nice sandals. But the rest require nicer dress for dinner.
I saw several people turned away at the door for not having proper attire. But it was a lot of fun dressing up for dinner. Just go with it and you will have a great time.

You would likely be able to bring your own beach umbrella on vacation with you, however we advise checking with your airline directly as this may be considered a oversized piece of luggage and may incur a separate fee.
KristinCC
You can bring your own umbrella, pool raft, etc.
Harleyman
yes - I did see others with portable umbrellas. We were up and walking the beach every day by 7 or 7:30 and had no problem getting a palapa. Also - most early beach goers leave by 1-ish pm. So a little later in the afternoon there isn't a problem finding shade either.
TravelingfromOmaha
We never saw portable umbrellas, but that is an excellent idea and I don't see why it would be a problem. So many people come out and put towels under the palapas and then don't show up for hours, leaving the only available chairs out in the blazing sun. A portable umbrella would solve that issue!

From 24-hour room service to free high-speed Internet access in every room, the resort encourages guests to ditch the real world for a private retreat.
But we recommend that you do leave the comforts of your room at least a little, or you'll miss the fabulous food at Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya's nine restaurants. Even breakfast is a gourmet affair at Le Marche, with its omelet station and local fruits and veggies. The casually elegant Taman Sari serves up an eclectic mix of Thai and Indonesian dishes. If you just want to grab a tropical cocktail while you sunbathe on the beach, the Sunrise & Sunset bar is close at-hand. Seven other bars also serve unlimited drinks throughout the resort.
To top off its appeal, Valentin Imperial Riviera Maya is set amid lush, tropical vegetation, providing a tropical background for memories that will last a lifetime.
