Mexican Birthday
It was raining the first day we got there. It rained, and rained. The next day it was clear and then we headed for the pool. While on the way to the pool I was hi-jacked by AMResort for a timeshare meeting that I didn't want to go to. That took all morning and in the afternoon it rained! I was ready to scream! But there was good food in the evening and both nights we ate at the El Patio restaurant - muy benito!!
The third day was wonderful, we ate at the World Cafe for breakfast, we swam and enjoyed the libations of the day, all day, we made friends, we partied hardy as it was Lindsay's birthday. We went to dinner that we got at the timeshare meeting - filet mignon and lobster, and the meal was fantastic! The rest of the time there was a rerun of that day, to breakfast, to the pool, to the room, cleaned up and to dinner then to whatever evening entertainment they had! There was entertainment from 3 pm till 11 pm and later some nights! It was a dream and Dreams Resort Tulum!
Garden view hacienda room was more than sufficient compared with an upgrade room we looked at. A short walk to shops, pools, beach, dining , not loud. as probably the case in seaside or poolside rooms., Great dining options, excellent buffet breakfast. Lively bars with evening dancing and energy. All age groups represented. Excellent nitely entertainment Mayan fire dancing; Brazilian Copoeira; traditional Mexican dancers and Mariachi, and terrific entertainment staff facilitating your enjoyment. Close to Tulum ruins, cenotes and fabulous beaches (Playa Paraiso). Swim with sea turtles right off the beautiful beach at Akumal. Beach at Dreams has some rocks so bring water shoes to ensure your enjoyment. Dreams Tulum is 1.5 hrs van ride south from Cancun Airport, so be prepared for more travel once you arrive in Cancun. Could be an issue if you arrive later in the day, so facto this into your arrangements..
Avoid connecting thru Miami International AIrport, an example of poor organization and signage, with staff who do not freely assist travelers. frustratingly long lines for hundreds to pass thru just 2 body xrays, no qeues or staff to direct incoming international travelers thru correct lines to check passports or stop rude people from cutting ahead. Everyone waiting in lines would tell the same story. How can upper management not see the need for obvious non-capital im[provements, particularly directing staff to provide better customer friendly attitudesand assistance. Miami Airport experience was a highly frustrating and stressful finish to a wonderful vacation.

Relaxing vacation
My sister, daughter, and I spent 8 nights, 7days at the Tulum Dreams Resort. We were quite happy with our choice. The rooms were quiet even though there was lots going on around. The pools great, the beaches nice, lots of beach to walk. What we mostly found was that the staff was amazing, hardworking, friendly, and very, very accommodating. The place was immaculate and the staff never stopped working.
Even though it is an hour and a half from the airport at Cancun it is worth the journey.
We would return in a flash.

Not as great as it appeared
The hotel was not very clean and originally we were placed in a moldy room and were unable to change it the first night. Then we realized that lawn chairs are never available as people put their stuff on them who knows when and then are not even around the lawn chairs all day they just wanted to reserve them due to a lack of chairs. At the buffet there were occassions where the staff ignored our table and did not come by or offer drinks until we were completely done with our meal. The second room we got was nice except for the constant cigarrette smoke smell for a hotel that is supposed to be nonsmoking in the rooms, in addition we could hear every noise the people in the two rooms next to us made. Further, the resort does not offer much in the way of activities. A resort shuttle to Tulum or Playa Del Carmen would be a good addition to provide additional activities for guests especially those over the age of 12.
The guy who made smoothies however was one of the two bright spots along with the bartenders as they were very friendly and prompt with service.

The Coconut Court Beach Hotel in Barbados is a family run hotel with an optional all-inclusive plan. We have also recently acquired the Mosquito hotels in Riviera Maya - these boutique hotels are adults only and the Moasquito Hotel and Spa has free buffet breakfast with our current special. Another resort to look at would be Secrets Sanctuary Cap Cana in Punta Cana.

Ang..Excellence Riviera Maya...adult only, no screaming kids, no splashing in the pools...absolutely wonderful. 5 star ..
Good luck.

Stayed at Dreams Tulum October 2010 for 1 week, we enjoyed it very much. Very remote, not within walking distance to anything, about an hour & half from airport (pay additional for private transportation, no stops!). Beach is nice, but not very large, however it was never crowded. They have 2 pools, next to each other, the lap pool was suppose to be for adults but not enforced. There were a lot of kids around when we were there. Always some activity at the main pool (not quiet). Restaurants were excellent, if you eat early, there was no waiting. But if you do have to wait, grab a drink and chill.

Not Dreams Tulum... Almonds Smugglers Bay St. Lucia is great for remote, quiet, service, however, water is rocky. Stayed there three times in last two years and loved it for "quiet, remote getaway".

Anywhere in Punta Cana. Avoid Mexico.
