VERY dissapointing
We spent over $9,000 for our family vacation. The best part of the vacation was the beach. The service and food were terrible -- any problem you had just resulted in what felt like the Dominican run around. The excursion we did was unsafe and frightening -- a snorkeling excursion in unsafe speedboats on a very rainy choppy day. I tried to reschedule and was told the weather would be fine. It was not.
My husband was charged twice for the round of golf --(its "free" to play, $160 for the golf carts for 4 people) and we could not get them to reverse the charges.
There is not much special about the Barcelo Bravero Palace Deluxe Resort unless you are there to smoke and drink-- I would never go to a Barcelo property again. Very low end and high priced.
This resort is amazing, rooms were always cleaned in a timely manner and refrigerator restocked. The resort has many amenties, and resteraunts..lots to do for all ages.
The only disappointing part was "the check-in" process---it took almost 2 hours of our day checking in at front desk...very disorganized , no order at all! The front desk staff needs to get it together, get a better way of getting people in and out! This is your vacation and you dont want to waste it in a line! Saturday was the worst day to check in--check out was a breeze though!
My recent stay at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe was a very nice one. The beach was beautiful, amenities were plenty and the grounds were very clean. There were plenty of shops, entertainment and things to do. I would say, ultimately the pros outwieghed the cons, but there were definitely both:
Pros: Good for kids and adults (they have a large adults only section), multiple pools, bars, activities (including golf, mini golf, water park, all kinds of sports, etc), very clean, resort had everything you needed, I felt safe on the resort and its spaced out nicely so it didn't seem over crowded.
Cons: My biggest cons were the food and friendliness of the staff. I stayed at the Barcelo in the Mayan Riviera this past summer and thought the food was outstanding - many restaraunt choices, high quality food, friendly wait staff and even the buffets didn't get boring. Can't say the same for the DR location. The food at the main restaraunts was sub par. The menus were confusing (we didn't know what we could order) and the wait staff was not very helpful when it came to dining. The buffets also got old very quickly (and I'm not even a picky eater!) It didn't change much from day to day and they weren't always opened when they said they were supposed to be. We were only there a total of 5 days, and I was having a tough time with the food by day 3.
Overall the resort was beautiful and has pretty much everything you need, but I probably wouldn't go back. I rather try out another resort - I rather not be on vacation where you dread another meal!

Cheap Caribbean only has a few properties that have a "clothing optional" policy. They include Couples Tower Island, Club Ambiance and Hedonism in Jamaica. The Temptations resorts also have a topless option as well. Feel free to call one our experienced destination specialists to discuss additional options.

I don't know of any nude beaches in Punta Cana. I can tell you however, that Bavaro Palace Deluxe does not have a nude beach.

Dominican Republic has law prohibiting nudity, so doubt you will find an official nude beach. Would suggest a resort which is adjacent to natural beach without buildings around.

Last time we were in Punta Canta in Jan. it was cold and rainy. We have been leery of going back ever since. Did we just hit a bad week or is that fairly normal. Want to try it again but that pretty much ruined our last vist.

January is a high season for travel. The average temperature is 81F.

Our family went the same week in early January for the past two years. The days were 85 degrees and lows at night in low 70's. The weather was picture perfect. We got incredible tans and went to the pool and beach the entire week. It rained one evening about 10 pm for about 15 minutes and the following morning when we were leaving for an hour or so off and on but you could tell it was going to clear and would be another great day. Actually went back there two years in a row because of the weather and some of the other resorts didn't have nearly as nice temperatures. Good Luck!

I was just there 1/9 - 1/15 and we had just missed a few days of rain... but we had 80+ degrees and sunny with no humidity the whole time we were there. Only got 10 minuts of rain early, early one morning.

My daughter (age 30) and I parasailed. The operator of the excursion swam up to my daughter at the beach and offered para sailing for $75 for both of us. I thought we were a bit crazy to take him up on his offer but it was fine and we had fun. My sons and daughter (ages 23, 27, 30) went Dune Buggying for $65 each and they had a great time, although they got very muddy, so you have to plan for that. They swam in a cave as part of the excursion.

The beach in Punta Cana is generally pretty calm and the waves not very big, unless of course, there is a storm brewing. The larger waves are usually seen a bit farther offshore and lose their strength once they hit the reef .

Always calm with no waves because the beach is bordered by a natural aquarium that keeps waves and sharks away.

The all inclusive plan at the Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe includes the buffet restaurants. The specialty restuarants are available for an additonal cost to call guests unless you upgrade to the Club Section of the resort.

Clients do have access to all restaurants, although there are some that require a surcharge, and most all except the buffet require reservations.
