Not so great
This was my third trip with Cheapcaribbean and I did not care for the Dominican or this resort. The food was awful, and the high pressure sales pitch to purchased a time share was not received very well by me or my family. Pick another location.
Not one for long winded info; all I can say is keep away from this place !! If it weren't for the friendly staff, there would be nothing good to say. stocked fridge was 1 each coke, 7up and Presedente, but no refill as was confirmed by the front desk(although they did give us water). Constant smell of sewerage throughout facility, hounded everywhere you go by staff trying to sell you in on the travel club. Tons of restaurants but only available to non-members after 8 pm, and no choices where you can eat; you are issued reservations when you arrive and that's what you get, no options to change. The beach is public and dirty gravelly brown sand, several stray dogs running through the facility.and on and on. my bottom line is i would never stay at a lifestyle run resort again

Big Disappointment
I traveled with my extended family of ten. My husband and 2 teens, my parents and my sister and her family of husband and 2 teens. We booked thru CheapCaribbean and paid for the VIP upgrade. I had read all the reviews and was aware that we should not eat any salad or uncooked fruit or vegetables.
Check In: A fiasco. We were a group of 3 families with ten people. We had requested one room with double beds for 3 teens near the parents room. After over 40 minutes of the staff trying to find reservations and get us checked in, we were taken to our rooms which were not what we had requested. All rooms were King size beds and none were in the same area. We had to call and get the front desk to find a room for the teens with double beds and move all the luggage. The teens room was a bottom floor with the closest adults in a separate building. The rooms requested were Junior suites, we were told sorry we are sold out, this is all we have. The rooms were moldy and smelled.
Rooms: I was in 3 block which overlooked the pool at the Frosty Bar with a small balcony. I had a King size bed. Not a 5 star but it was fine, once you got past the musty smell. The housekeeper provided bottled water daily but I tipped daily and left it on the small fridge. We had to cross the sewer pipes and the smell was intense.
Restaurants: We were given our 2 reservations in our check in envelope for times and restaurants we had no interest in. So upon check in I immediately made friends with one of the male guest services attendants--I will not give his name so he will not get in trouble. I took the 4 reservation slips and handed him a twenty and told him that I needed his help to get dinner reservations. He took the twenty and told me he was only doing it because he liked me and wanted to make my vacation good. I told him if he got me the reservations I would like him more and tip him more. He then changed our 2 reservations and told us to come back the next day to finish the week's reservations.
Buffets--We ate at the Casa Blanca for one dinner--our first night and one lunch--the last day. The food here was varied and appeared to be edible and clean. We ate at Pearl each morning for breakfast. After day 1, everyone was sick and I resorted to eating 2 pieces of dry toast each morning. I did not return for lunch but others in our party did. I was not impressed with the Pearl and found it to be dirty and dinghy. El Pillion, we sat down for breakfast one morning and walked around--flies on all dishes and much more dirty than Pearl. We did not stay.
Ala Carte dinners. We were able to get dinner reservations at Johnny's---awful, the restaurant smelled like mold and dirty socks. The steak was so tough it was unedible. I ate the paella and was sick all night. Our 3rd night we had reservations at Indocine, the chinese restaurant. The decor and menu were nice..the service was not good. I had been sick all day so I picked at the food. The others who were able to eat enjoyed their dinner but 2 of them became sick that night. We ate at Blue Lagoon, the Seafood restaurant twice--more on that later---and it was the best of the group. I had the crab cake both times, once the steak--not bad and once the Jack Daniels Salmon..very good. We also ate at Rodizio's twice. It serves Brazilian style meat, there are no sides, just a salad bar--which none of us touched, and some rice on the buffet. We went to Bellini for pizza 2x and it was excellent--the best item we ate all week. I was able to keep it down!
At 11:00 Blue Lagoon and the Pearl serve "snacks"---do not fool yourself into thinking it is some midnight buffet. It is only the choice of a hamburger, hotdog and fries. No dessert, nothing else. In fact there really is nowhere to get a "snack" at all. There are no bbq areas that cook the food fresh, no chips or treats anywhere.
Bravissimo--since this was included we took the bus over and sat for the show. I was not impressed. It was a C version of any Las Vegas style shows. The drinks were watery and you were seated according to bracelet color.
Casino--we were disappointed. It was a very small casino and no one was in it. We went after the Bravissimo show and there was maybe 12 people, 3 of which were women of the night at the bar.
Lighthouse Disco--once again a complete ghost town. It has a pretty view but we did not stay for a drink because it just felt awkward with no one in the place.
VIP Party---the VIP party was a hoax. In the beginning of the day, they announced no dinner would be served. We had no reservations and were not happy, but were able to get Blue Lagoon for dinner. Throughout the day there were rumors circulating that the party would be canceled due to the weather---? I asked a bartender and she said maybe it was going to be canceled due to it being Easter and not many workers. Hmm. We went to dinner at Blue Lagoon then heard the party had started so we made our way over. It was set up and the entertainment was fun. We were disappointed that they did not serve dinner and we had missed most of the party.
VIP---hahaha. It seems that there are every color of the rainbow bracelets and everyone seems to think they are VIP. I know I was told we were upgraded for $100 more per person to VIP. But guess what---nope. In fact a few bars that are listed as open to everyone such as the Tapas asked us to leave since we did not have the right bracelet. I showed them the map and they said sorry its a mistake! The VIP beach is pathetic. It is a pretend VIP area that is wall to wall people pretending they are VIP. In fact the whole premise of being VIP is a joke.
Entertainment--none. There are some shows that consist of butt shaking dances. The first night you watch but after a few numbers and nights of the same thing--its not worth it. There is nothing to do at night and believe me we tried to find or make some fun.
My HONEST opinion is...vacation time and funds are too precious. DO NOT BOOK HERE and if you are booked---change immediately.

excellent resort only if you own a timeshare there
the resort was beautiful but unless you owned or rented one of their villas, you cannot get a dinner reservation and were stuck eating at the same one buffett every night. i got so sick of eating the same food over and over again. I traveled with two other couples and one couple had two double beds in their room instead of one quuen and guest services never changed their room. Also if your room was on the first floor, your room was flooded with the over flowed sewage and rain from the night time, you know that doesnt smell pleasant. All those people's stuff were ruined

Are there options for families with 3 children?3 answers
7 months ago
kathy
Hi Kathy,
The maximum occupancy for all room categories is 4; 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults 1 child. If you book two rooms to accomodate your family you would be able to request that the rooms are connecting. While there is no guarantee, if they are available at the time of check in the resort will make every effort to accomodate your needs.
ccsusan1
Not really much for the kids. They have a kids zone, but I would not take my 15 and 9 year old boys there.
IThoughtYouSaidRum
Yeah, we saw tons of families there. They have a special kid's building. We don't have kids so I couldn't tell you how good it is.

We are currently selling this resort, however, the resort does not open until December. This resort is available for all ages but do keep in mind that there are a lot of steps on the property.

There were people of all age ranges there. Families, couples, students, etc. There's pretty much something to do for any age group.

It was a very wide range and pretty even distribution of ages. Definitely caters to the partying. We had a beer chugging contest and won a couple of pool volleyball tourneys (prize was rum!)...

No, they will hound you to sit through one, but if you just say I am not interested they will eventually leave you alone.

Kinda, it's basically the same deal. They'll schedule a VIP tour for you, just skip it, they don't force you to go, but once you go it'll be hard to leave.

If you are a VIP member you have acces to any of the VIP areas-Serenity beach, Harmony beach, VIP pool, VIP resturants, bars and lounges. There is a restaurant that serves kosher food as well. You get free transfers from and to the airport. Depending on what level you sign up for your rate is locked in, you can also upgrade to a suite or villa as long as there is availability. You can also use laptops and free wi fi at the Tower. They will provide you with a laptop if you don't have one of your own.

No. The Cheap Caribbean VIP upgrade did not get us in to any of the other bars (Hookah, Sports, etc...). Whiskey Bar is not a VIP bar (it is on the Cofresi beach). No on the kosher food.

CheapCaribbean.com does suggest purchasing the round-trip airport transfers along with your vacation package. This guarantees that you have transportation waiting for you upon arrival, and also have guaranteed transportation back to the airport from your resort. It also guarantees that you will not have to pay any additional for a taxi. You can use the service of a taxi or other transportation in destination, but CheapCaribbean.com cannot guarantee availability or pricing.

Snorkeling is available on site but booking a tour will take you to the best local sites. Introductory scuba lesson in pool is part of the All-Inclusive package. Turinter Tours offers several tours that include snorkeling as part of the tour. A rep from Turinter Tours will have a welcome packet for you with details of the excursions available near the hotel. Ocean World next door has snorkeling as well.

Hello, When you are pricing out your vacation package you will see that excursions are available for you to purchase as well detailed information about that activity. The beach is really nice. The sand is brown, not the typical white sand beach so the water did not reflect crystal blue as I like but it's still clear. The water has some waves, a bit calmer on the right side of the beach. There seems to be plenty of room to layout & not be disturbed by anyone.

How do you upgrade to VIP? And what does it include?3 answers

Ant
They'll offer you a VIP tour, once you're on the tour it's all a big sales pitch. If not, just wander around telling people who work there that you want to become a member and they'll be more than happy to help, (they get commission).
The amenities that they offer are almost endless compared to the "regular" all inclusive. You'll have access to all the private beaches, better alcohol, access to the best restaurants and super cheap rooms at over 5000 locations around the world. That's just a few of the big ones that made the difference for us. I'd recommend signing up for their "Try" package.

I believe a CheapCarribean representative can upgrade you. Their packages included the VIP upgrade. The upgrade gets you access to a beach and a restaurant at the Lifestyle resort next door.

You need to invest a minimum of $5000. I'm not sure what you get for that. Most people were opting for the $19,000 option which was a 20 year plan.
