Hotel Description
In 1720, a rough, wooden fort was built by the French on the same site that the Fort Young Hotel sits on today. In 1761, British forces overran this fort when they captured the island and nine years later major construction began on Fort Young, named after the island's first British governor. These are the same walls that are now part of the hotel. Old-world charm, modern amenities, and open vistas of the Caribbean Sea, marry harmoniously in this historic building. In 1964, the Fort Young was opened as a hotel and was fully operational until 1979, when Hurricane David totally destroyed the structure. It was then renovated and re-opened again, almost ten years later in 1989.
Located on the outskirts of Roseau, the capital of the spectacular and rugged island of Dominica, the Fort Young Hotel was built around the walls of the old 18th-century fort, many of the original features have been retained in the public areas of the property.
The uniqueness of the Fort Young Hotel is its wide range of facilities, making it a perfect home-away-from-home for business travelers as well as those looking for relaxation, fine-dining, luxury, and comfort, with great opportunities to discover the beauty of Dominica under and above the water.
Break away from the everyday hectic pace and enjoy the serenity of the pool while viewing the sea, hills, and architectural details of the hotel. Relieve body and mind at the Spa, or really get carried away on the Jacuzzi deck in one of the three whirlpools. Duty-free shopping compliments the distinctiveness of the Fort Young Hotel, a place you won't find anywhere else on the island. Whether you are coming to Dominica for business , looking for adventure, or leisure, staying at the Fort Young Hotel is the logical choice.
Hotel facilities include an infinity swimming pool, sundeck, hot and cold Jacuzzis, duty-free shopping, Spa, 4 bars, 2 Restaurants and a private jetty from where dive boats pick up in-house divers. The hotel offers multi-configuration indoor and outdoor function areas and meeting space. Island adventures and tours, diving, whale watching and safaris are easily arranged through the activities and tours assistant at the hotel.
