Not a fan
Traveled here with a group of 6 and we had issues pretty much every day. Not being able to get into our rooms every day at some point was very irritating...seems like that would be a pretty basic thing for this type of establishment. Late night eating was too limited (almost non-existent). They did comp us for part of our bill for the inconveniences but I missed that feeling I usually have at the end of my vacations of not wanting to go home.
The resort physically looked nice; however there was no refrigerator in the room which was very inconvenient. The resort was mostly older couples or families so for a person in their twenties it was not the most fun resort. The entertainment at the hotel was minimal. Highly recommended to rent a vehicle and drive out to another town if you are looking to go out. The prices for dinner and drinks were very expensive. Staff at the hotel were very nice.
We vacationed here in late Oct. 2011. We were blown away as we stepped into the resort. The first thing you see is a huge wall of windows overlooking the ocean. The lobby with its open three floors is beautiful. The grounds are well kept and stunning.
If you are looking for a beautiful white sand caribbean beach, this is not it. The sand is brown and littered with drift wood. Talking a walk was almost impossible.
The service was great, initially, as we learned they try to sign you up for a time share meeting. It seemed after we declined the invitation the staff was good, but not as attentive. Valets were great.
We were upgraded to an ocean front room. However, the palm trees obstructed the view of the ocean. Still, grateful for the upgrade. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, but could use some updating. The air was way too low, but a call to the front desk had someone there in minutes to correct it. The room was an adjoining room, which was okay for the first three nights, but the forth and last night someone checked in and the noise from the t.v. and chairs being dragged around the room made for a very unpleasant night. Be sure you are not put in an adjoining room.
Now, for the food. Very overpriced, but that is to be expected from a resort. Our first night there we dined at Palio. I ordered the prawns. The first bite was horrible, ammonia taste and strong smell, which is clearly a sign they were bad. No real apology, nothing other than to remove the item from the bill. They did take it away, offer me something else, at which point I was no longer hungry. Also, policy states no shorts, no sandals etc..., so we dressed up. Most everyone in the restaurant was wearing shorts and sandals. The Tiki Bar had great food. Maribella had great food too. The only complaint with Maribella was on the second day we asked for a window seat, went to get our buffet breakfast to return to someone seated at our table. To make matters worse, "no one" came to get a drink order or check on us at any point. Upon leaving we told the hostess, which by the way was texting on her phone the entire time, could have cared less that we had a negative experience.
Beautiful resort, food at the hotel was a little pricey. Casino odds were not the best. Beach, ocean and service were all wonderful. Overall a great trip.

What is the minimum check in age for this hotel? 18 or 21?2 answers
1 year, 15 months ago
em
The resort's adult rates start at 18 years old, and they do not list a minimum age for check in, however during certain times of year (spring break for example) they may require someone over the age of 21 be in your party in order to check you in. We would recommmend contacting the hotel directly regarding these policies.

Is this hotel all inclusive where all means and drinks are included?

This resort is not all inclusive. There are meal plans available for purchase, however alcoholic beverages are not included in these plans.
KateCC
no and it's a little pricey. The bill adds up quickly....but it is a gorgeous property. Go to the resort web page and it should list menus and prices. Looooved this resort. You will enjoy it
famkamtraveller
No.
treeeeman
No, this hotel is not all-inclusive. I don't think there is one at all in Puerto Rico. This hotel is VERY expensive for all food. The resort is a mile from any sort of convenience store so if you want to goo off property a rental is required. It was $55.00 per day to rent at the resort, so it is best to get the car from the airport.

No. You have to pay for everything. A typical drink is $12.
But the bar on the beach makes a great Bahama Mama.

No. To save money buy a cooler and beer and rum down the street.

No unfortunately, not all inclusive. I looked into it but you can pay a certain amount per person to make it all inclusive. I can't find the cot but I believe it was 180. a night.

We will be traveling with 3 young children. Do any of the hotels offer 2 double beds and a roll-away option so that we can all stay in the same room?5 answers
I am not comfortable having the children in a separate room, and really don't want to spend twice as much money for our vacation and not be able to sleep with my husband! Suggestions?
1 year, 14 months ago
Jill
There are some destinations that allow 5 people in one room. The best deals are going to be in the Riviera Maya and Punta Cana. As far as the specific bedding you are looking for, that is going to vary by resort. Your best bet is to use the gold Create Your Own Vacation box on the left side of our home page. Simply plug in your travel dates, departure city, desired location, and 1 room with 5 people (make sure you fill in the ages of the children). This will bring up all of the resorts for that destination that can accommodate 5 people. From there you can investigate the type of bedding they offer.
JenCC
My standard room had two double beds (maybe even Queen)and there was something tucked away in the closet that may have been an air mattress, although I'm not sure. I got the sense that the hotel would have provided one for a young child if needed.
LStandke
I don' blame you! The Rio Mar room we booked had two queen beds, and I know they have roll-aways there. There were many families with young children there when we visited, late March 2011.
BuckeyeMama
They had double beds in the room, but not much space for a roll-away bed.
sonrae
yes they do offer double beds which I what I stayed in. I'm not sure about the roll away bed, though.

The recommended area for surfing is in Barbados on Dover Beach. The best way to narrow down your search for a resort that will meet your needs please proceed to the toolbar called "HOTELS" on CheapCaribbean.com. Then click on "Hotel Finder" and this will allow you to narrow down your search and pick the best resort fit for your needs.

Can you smoke on your balcony?7 answers
i keep seeing the resort is completely non smoking - completely??

I am not sure but my husband did.
Ashbys
Yes, we were able to smoke on the balcony. There are smoking areas outside the restaurants and tiki bar. They also allow you to smoke at the beach and by the pools.
JEANNIE2424
This is a smoke free hotel. So I don't think they allow smoking on the balconies either. There weren't any ashtrays in the room.
ProfessionalVacationer
This may be the case indoors. But while we were there, they sold Cuban cigars right on the resort. People smoked in the outdoor bars.
mrpaul
I don't know what the official rules state but there were definitely people smoking on their balconies, at the pool, and on the beach.
TravelingMama
I saw people smoking on their balcony
balexanba
Yes smoking is allowed in alll outside areas except restaurants
Spinderella
My husband is a smoker and when we went in 2006, he smoked on our balcony and they did have a few designated areas for smoking outside. I don't know if things have changed since then.

what are the golf green fees per person3 answers
Is the golf course on the property and are there any discounts for play.
Russ
Green fees include: cart, club storage, tees and locker room access. All rates are subject to change and vary based on the time of year.
18 Holes:
Hotel Guest $85 - $165
Walk-in $110 - $180
9 Holes:
Hotel Guest $50 - $95
Walk-in $60 - $115
Club Rental: $55 (per set)
Shoes Rental: $15 (per pair)
Unlimited Range Balls: $15 (per day/person)
Second Round Rate/Cart Fee: $35 (per person)
Rider Fee: Free

The golf courses are on the property and there is a shuttle from the hotel lobby every 10-15 minutes. At 2:00 the green fees drop to $75 per person. Also there is a VIP card that will get you 25% off. Not off twilight rates though. Not certain how you get the card, it was included in our package from CheapCaribbean.
CBang
The course is right on the property in front of the hotel. It appeared to be in good shape, but I did not get to play while I was there and never checked the rates.

Thank you for considering CheapCaribbean.com in planning your vacation! We have a variety of properties you can choose from that are all-inclusive. Our biggest all-inclusive destinations are Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Puerto Rico does not specialize in all inclusive packages, which generally include all meals, drinks- alcoholic and non alcoholic-room and gratuities. This particular resort offers a modified plan which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner only. You can search specifically for all inclusive properties on our website by selecting the Hotel Finder tab on our home page. Select your destination, AI (all inclusive) and whatever your primary requirements are and a list of qualifying properties will be displyed. Should you require any further assistance feel free to call one of our experienced destination specialists.
ccsusan1
Yes, it was all-inclusive. I booked 6 weeks in advance. I did notice the package and restrictions changed from one day to the next. So there is a time limit as to the type of package and price. I was very satisfied with what we had.
LoveMyFam
No. But you can add on at a fee to have meals included.
Bitsy
No. I believe there are no all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico. Paying for food, drinks and activities will add a substantial expense to your trip - possibly even double the cost.

what is the charge to upgrade from resort view to ocean view?4 answers
9 months ago
Amy
Our room was an ocean view and I think all of the rooms were ocean view. There is a fee to upgrade to the Preferred Side of the resort.
dmthomas
I don't know Amy. We had a resort view and it was fine for us. When you spend most of your time outdoors, you have the ocean view, so often times we don't upgrade because there is a large price difference and it is not crucial for us, personally, to have. Please check with the resort for the actual cost and if they have any promotions.
piscesmom
The additional price to upgrade does depend on several factors such as travel dates, availability, etc. Unfortunately, we are unable to give an estimate based on these conditions.
MariaCC
We booked run of house (ROH) and since it is offseason we were upgraded at no charge. Of course, we explained it was our 25th anniversary and I tipped the clerk $10.00.

I believe it was about $200...

We arrived at the Resort around 7:30pm on a Monday and left the resort to catch our 3:30am flight in San Juan at 12:30am on Saturday. There is an Enterprise Car Rental in the lobby and for only about $80 a day you can drive where ever you want. We went to Old San Juan which is only about a 40 minute drive. The whole Island is only about 200+ miles across and 30+ from top to bottom.

Yes, you can travel throughout PR. We went into to Old San Juan twice and the western part of the Island too.

They use "Dragonfly" transportation service. They are very good. If you planning to rent a car pick it up at the airport, the resort is a very easy drive, approx. 40 minutes to an hour depending the time of the day and the rout You pick. Route 66 is faster, the toll is 1dollar 50 cents (US), at the end of the toll road get on Rt 3, watch for the sign, turn left, less than a mile to the resort. I liked Rt. #187, follows the shore line.
ocsi
You can book a transportation through CheapCaribbean.com. It's very convenient and safe. You can also take a taxi from airport.
Selina
Rent a car at the airport. It is pretty easy to get to resort. It is about 20 miles and takes about 40 mins because of traffic. DO NOT take the shuttle offered. The company running it is not professional and the bus is old and bumpy. Made me sick. The shuttle is NOT free.
Cass03
We used Dragonfly Adventures as our transfer from the San Juan airport and the hotel. It would be cheaper to rent a car as it would offer transportation for other day trips or back and forth from tennis and golf to hotel.

Hi Cathy,
To determine the price of a package for a single traveller, simply adjust the number of passengers to "1" and the package will price accordingly. The website defaults to 2 passengers travelling because the resort pricing is based on 2 people per room, however you may adjust the number of travellers as needed.

Hotel Description
Wyndham Rio MarBeach Resort & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Resort: Golf Heaven
Carpet putting deserves its own pro circuit, but nothing compares to the real thing. Nestled between El Yunque Rainforest and Fajardo's bioluminescent bay, Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort & Spa, A Wyndham Grand Resort is touted as the Caribbean's premiere golf resort and home to two world-class golf courses. Tucked into the "Island of Enchantment," Wyndham Rio Mar offers 600 elegant rooms and a tropical setting, majestic mountains and the rhythmic, rolling waves of the Atlantic.
The Ocean Course, designed by Tom and George Fazio, is sheer panorama. Aptly named for its spectacular ocean views, this course features multiple bunkers, elevated greens and four sets of tees. A favorite among guests, mostly for the iguanas and the signature 16th hole.
While the Fazios took a liking to the trade winds, Greg Norman's first-ever Caribbean design, the River Course, is 6,945 yards of rolling green along the Mamayes River. Norman took care to preserve the native foliage of this challenging course, embraced by mountain vistas and seashores, and to allow the natural terrain to determine the placement of all holes. Rumor has it that every hole is a signature hole here.
Non-golfers aren't forgotten, thanks to one mile of gorgeous beach with lots of fun activities, two stunning pools, one for adults and one for families and a 20,000-sq-ft sun deck. And if your putter fails you, perhaps Lady Luck is waiting to smile on you at the casino. Or maybe a session at the spa will help you unwind over that last drive?
As nighttime approaches, stash the clubs and return to Wyndham Rio Mar Beach Resort to observe the legendary bioluminescent bay of nearby Fajardo, where microorganisms create a mysterious blue-green light that illuminates the calm waters. After a dinner of sushi and Thai delights at Shimas Sushi Bar, retreat to 400-sq-ft, Ocean View Room. Snuggle into the king-sized bed to dream of the birdies or a hole in one!
